Jasmine Smith, LCSW

Jasmine is a licensed clinical social worker and doctor of social work student who created B. Well, because she recognized there was a gap in equitable services available for Black women. Jasmine, as a survivor of military-connected relationship and sexual violence, has dedicated her master’s level and doctoral-level studies to improving the disparate rates and experiences of Black women survivors of violence. Research unequivocally shows that Black women experience higher rates of domestic violence and are less likely to receive culturally competent care and support. After her mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, Jasmine witnessed how Black women are also disproportionally affected by breast cancer. Additionally, due to institutional barriers, they are less likely to receive mammogram screenings to improve early detection of breast cancer, leading to a forty percent mortality rate. To mitigate the barriers of inequitable care, Jasmine utilized her skills and advocacy as a social worker to develop solutions to improve the overall health and well-being of Black women from a culturally responsive lens.
