Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer

Black women are more likely to experience delays in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, which leads to poorer outcomes. This can be attributed to a lack of access to equitable healthcare, including screening and diagnostic tests. The lack of access to equitable healthcare is rooted in systemic racism.

Black women often face barriers to accessing cancer care and treatment. This can be due to a lack of transportation, inability to take time off work, and inadequate social support. Additionally, the high cost of cancer treatment and care can also be a barrier for Black women to access the necessary resources to fight breast cancer.

The issue of inadequate resources and services within the healthcare system is perpetuated by structural violence and racism. The systemic racism within the healthcare system results in disparities in breast cancer rates and outcomes for Black women. The lack of funding and resources allocated towards research and development of improved treatment options and access to quality care further perpetuates the problem.

Access to quality healthcare is a fundamental human right, and equitable care for all should be the norm. Black women deserve equal access to healthcare, including preventative care, cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment, and supportive care. Thus, we must strive towards achieving racial equity in healthcare to eradicate the systemic racism that exists within healthcare systems. Only then can we reduce the disproportionate rates of breast cancer and mortality rates for Black women, ensuring that all women have the necessary tools and resources to fight this disease.
